MESSAGE FROM OWNER

Mimi escaped from the carrier in the parking lot at Lyons Veterinary hosp at 101 Springfield Avenue and bolted from the parking lot. She was terrified to find herself in the wide open. Outdoors is last place she wants to be. Mimi has lived as our indoor baby since we became a family in 2017. We are heartbroken and want her back with us. Her little brother, Nino, also misses her and wants Mimi to come back. She is VERY SKITTISH. DO NOT CHASE OR APPROACH. She’s hiding but might have started moving at night. We need a sighting so we can focus the search. If you live within 2 miles of the area, please check Ring or security camera footage since June 19. Please report any sighting. We love Mimi. Please help us bring our baby girl .

A lot of great advice! If it wasn't said? Look in bushes, wooded areas and DEFINITELY under cars or any type of place they could hide. Check around dumpster areas too.

Check house thoroughly. Check up in trees. Check animal control in person and report as missing and take photos with you. Post flyers in Spanish and English around your neighborhood. Look for him/her after dark as cats are most active between midnight and 6:00 a.m. However, go outside anytime after dark, using a flashlight look for "eyes glowing" under and inside of any outbuildings on your property and surrounding properties as well. Look under your home's crawlspace, porches, decks, bushes, trees and nearby woods. Look inside of storm drains and driveway culverts. A lot of cats are found hiding in them. Call kitty's name (softly) listening for a response. If your kitty gets treats, shake a treat bag while calling his name. If all else fails borrow a pet safe humane kitty trap from a local animal rescue group or buy your own at Tractor Supply and try trapping him. These are often very effective. To bait the trap: place a dirty clothing item of owners inside along with water and tuna or sardines. *COVER the trap with dark colored towels or a tarp to keep it dark inside so kitty will enter. *Note: if you do trap your kitty, DO NOT OPEN the trap outside to release him or kitty might bolt. CARRY your trapped kitty indoors (inside of the trap) and release him in the safety of your home. Place a night camera on your yard to see if kitty is showing up after dark. A trail cam is an excellent idea. Also, place a camera on the trap if possible synced to your cell phone so you will know when kitty gets trapped. Check with neighbors close by and animal shelter daily. Also, ask your mail carrier to be on the lookout for your kitty. Hopefully, you can locate kitty shortly on your own. If you don't find kitty, contact a Pet Tracker. Sharing from Charlotte. Post flyers because everyone is not on social media. Post on Nextdoor. Hire a tracker. Please follow my advice. No litter box outside, no food outside. It will attract other animals including other cats who will keep your cat away if trying to return home. ⬇️ Have you distributed flyers- by knocking on doors to your neighbors and handing them out, and posted them on poles etc. as well even to any businesses close by? This step is crucial to recovering your cat! Speak to people in person. I cannot stress enough, the importance of knocking on doors speaking to people and handing them a “lost cat” flyer at the same time. This is how you get sightings and this is what will bring your cat home. If you get a sighting you need to set and MONITOR a humane trap at the sighting location right away and at morning dusk. *NEVER LEAVE A TRAP UNATTENDED. You can use rotisserie chicken and Friskies Whitefish and Sardines canned food as bait. Cats usually stay within a one mile radius from home. Most are found very close to home as in a few houses away or next street over. They are usually found (after getting sightings and with trapping) very close to their own home. Some come home on their own, usually in the overnight hours. Concentrate on canvassing your own neighborhood, however, in case the sighting was not of your cat. Cats don’t usually go far. They usually will try to return home between 10 PM and 5 AM with peak hours being 3-5 AM. Put a worn shirt of yours on your porch or near the door and continue to replace with a fresh one daily. Do NOT put a litter box outside. It will attract male unneutered cats who will spray property and chase your cat away if trying to return home. Some cats stay hidden for 3 weeks traveling at night. Flyers generate sightings.

Call police and local shelter. Post flyers in plastic sleeves on telephone polls and give to neighbors. Post to town Facebook pages and Nextdoor. https://www.jotform.com/app/bdrr/lost-pet-portal?fbclid=IwAR36IcAFUqvJ-HvUn52VZS5eFoY7OvCc9NfyRfbw9aiKcNc3qPCeo9cJHXI
