Tips for finding Cats: QUICKLY - put out kitty's bed & family's dirty laundry to help smell the way home. NO cat boxes/food. They can attract predators!
If safe, leave a door/window open so they can come back in on their own. [This is how my kitty made her way back in].
**Always add a phone # so you can be reached with real-time sightings. NOTE: If you get a suious text, ask for a photo & phone call [twice, then block]. A scammer will not respond with a pic or call.
This is long, but may have information that's helpful:
***TIPS from a cat behaviorist that has helped others find their kitty:
> Inside only & inside/outside cats are almost always hiding very close. Tell all your neighbors and put up neon poster board lost cat signs.
> Leave a window, garage, or door open to your house if it’s safe to do so for them to reenter. (Keep in mind this is at your own risk due to safety concerns and other pets would need to be secured first.)
> It is very likely they will try to re-enter through the door they escaped from. Put some of your dirty clothes & their bed outside so they can use them to smell their way home.
> Physical searches in a 5-house radius (500 yards) of your house is one of the most important things you can do.
> Look in trees, on roofs, bushes, storm drains, and under/in everything. This includes under and in parked cars as scared cats will climb inside their undercarriage. Check with neighbors to see if they may be locked inside a garage or shed.
> Use a flashlight at night to look for eyes. Scared cats may still move around so you may need to check the same places multiple times.
> Fear can make even the most tame cat act feral so some need to be trapped. They probably won’t come to your call. It is also not uncommon for them to be missing for over a week before they come out of hiding. If you see your kitty, sit down, talk to them until they comes to you. DO NOT CHASE!
> Don't put their litter box or food outside because it can attract other cats and wildlife that might run off or your cat. They can go for a while without food, but do need water.
>Put up flyers - if your pet is friendly, someone may have them in their home & not know how to look for the owner. Many folks are NOT on social media!
File a report with pawboost. They will send out alerts to the PawBoost "Rescue Squad". They'll also provide a flyer you can print/hand out & put up in high-traffic areas/neighborhoods. They also post to the Pawboost Lost & Found Pets Facebook Page for your area.
NOTE: The Rescue Squad™ is a group of volunteers, rescue owners, shelter employees, & veterinarians who have signed up to help.
